Each book that appeared in a Publishers Weekly annual hardcover nonfiction bestseller list during the years 1980 through 1989 is listed below in alphabetical order, along with information specifying whether or not the book includes an index.
Each year's list includes the top fifteen bestsellers. Therefore, there were 150 positions on the bestseller lists for the 1980s. The table below includes only 133 titles because some titles were bestsellers in more than one year.
Information about the presence or absence of an index is based on data in the book's MARC tags retrieved from the Library of Congress Online Catalog . The table indicates the presence of an index only if the word index appears in the book's MARC field tag 500, usually in a phrase such as Includes index or Includes bibliography and index. It indicates the absence of an index if the word index does not appear in the book's MARC field tag 500 or if field tag 500 is not one of the book's MARC tags. Occasionally, information in the table is based on data in field tag 504 rather than field tag 500.
